This set of 4 cork-backed placemats is printed with a detail from William Morris's kaleidoscopic "Blackthorn" (1892), a woodblock-printed wallpaper in The Metropolitan Museum of Art collection. Morris was a prolific designer of lavish botanical motifs for wallpapers and fabrics. As the Arts and Crafts movement's leading figure, Morris believed that beauty, imagination, and order were the necessary components of a strong design. He frequently looked to the English countryside for inspiration.
