Kaylene Whiskey was born in Indulkana, a remote Aboriginal community in South Australia. She is part of Iwantja Arts, a collective based in the Indulkana Community. Having spent her childhood steeped in 1980s pop culture, Whiskey creates paintings using bright colors to render beloved figures in flat pictorial space and engaging with her life in rural Australia. The comic book-like worlds on her canvases are instantly nostalgic and captivating.
