In the iconic "Liberty Leading the People" (1830) by Eugène Delacroix, an unafraid and daunting female figure personifies the character of Liberty, leading her countrymen to victory, bearing a bayonetted musket in one hand and the French flag in the other. The painting is currently installed at the Louvre in Paris.
