This delicate silk embodiment of Judy Chicago's Through the Flower (1973), one of her first artworks, symbolizes her struggle as a female artist. Through the Flower is also the name of Chicago's non-profit Feminist art organization founded by Chicago in 1978. Her mission is to educate a broad public about the importance of art and its power in countering the erasure of women's achievements.

Judy Chicago is an artist, author of fourteen books, educator, and humanist whose work and life are models for an enlarged definition of art, an expanded role for the artist, and women's rights to freedom of expression.
