These lacquered wood coasters feature celestial symbols adapted from a late 19th–early 20th century Indonesian ceremonial mat, or lampit, in the Metropolitan Museum of Art's collection. Designed for spiritual leaders, these mats were woven from finely split cane fibers and adorned with burnt patterns made using a heated stylus. The lampit that inspired this design features crescent moons amid birds in flight to suggest the relationship between Indonesia's elite rulers and the universe's cosmic order.
