This House collects a selection of poems by the contemporary Brazilian poet Ana Martins Marques. The poems, drawn from three of Marques's books and translated by Elisa Wouk Almino, revolve around domestic objects and the home. The poems are also illustrated by Wouk Almino with watercolor drawings. 

About the Author 
Ana Martins Marques was born in Belo Horizonte in 1977. She is the author of the poetry collections A vida submarina (Scriptum, 2009), Da arte das armadilhas (Companhia das Letras, 2011), O livro das semelhanças (Companhia das Letras, 2015), Duas janelas (with Marcos Siscar; Luna Parque, 2016) and Como se fosse a casa (with Eduardo Jorge; Relicário, 2017). She has received various literary awards in Brazil, among them the Prêmio da Fundação Biblioteca Nacional and third place for Prêmio Oceanos. Her poems have been translated into English, French, Italian, and Spanish. This House is her first book published outside of Brazil. 
About the Translator and Illustrator
Elisa Wouk Almino is a writer, editor, and literary translator from Portugal. She was born into a Brazilian family but grew up in a few different places.
As the Los Angeles senior editor at Hyperallergic, Elisa writes a fair amount about visual art and culture. Her writing and literary translations have been published in Asymptote Journal, Guernica Magazine, Hyperallergic, n+1, The Nation, the Paris Review Daily, The Millions, Stonecutter Journal, Words Without Borders, and other places.
