Fred Tomaselli "Mob" Coaster Set
A set of four corkboard coasters featuring an exploration of Fred Tomaselli’s renowned Mob painting, giving insight into how viewers explore the mesmerizing detail in his work.
Like After Migrant Fruit Thugs, this work was inspired by a scene that Tomaselli witnessed himself: Baltimore orioles mobbing a crow that had possibly stolen an egg from the orioles’ nest. Here, the incident plays out like something from a horror film—the crow seems impossibly massive and sports too many eagle-like talons, and the black sky with ominously glowing red horizon adds an almost apocalyptic atmosphere. Heat resistant, 3.75 inches diameter.
Fred Tomaselli is an American artist who, over the last decade, has developed a unique style meticulously crafted on highly detailed paintings incorporating allegorical figures, suspended in a thick layer of clear, epoxy resin. Drawing upon art-historical sources and Eastern and Western decorative traditions, Fred Tomaselli’s works explode in mesmerizing patterns that appear to grow organically across his compositions. This set of 4 corkboard coasters is from Third Drawer Down Studio, in collaboration with Fred Tomaselli and the Toledo Museum of Art.
