This set of art-inspired glass coasters shows details from four ukiyo-e prints in the Metropolitan Museum of Art's collection. These colorful Edo-period (1615–1868) woodblock prints featured popular scenes that appealed to wealthy townspeople, including the urban pleasure districts of the "floating world," nature scenes, and important historical events.
The 19th-century works featured on these handsome coasters are by Japanese artists Torii Kiyonaga (1752–1815), Katsushika Hokusai (1760–1849), and Yashima Gakutei (1786–1868).
